the problem is this exact sentiment would have resonated 30 years ago. yes, things have improved over time. but how much, and how fast, are they really improving today?https://twitter.com/fortworthchris/status/1428011523398590464 …

125 yrs ago not even the richest person in the world could have: - air conditioning - home refrigerator - a flashlight - a personal computer - access to an airplane - a radio - a television The world is getting better if you choose to look at progress rather than the media.

Fair point, since all but one of those was available 30 years ago!

I often ask people how far back they'd be willing to trade places with the richest man in the world (vs., say a middle class person today). I'm not sure I'd even get to the 90s.

If I traded places with the richest person in the 90s I'd still end up living through 2021 but I'd be considerably older. What's the benefit?

Economy slowed down in pretty much all Western countries in the past 30 years. East-Asian countries did grow fast. But till now they’ve been on a catch up game. I hope they won’t stop, and shine a light into the future.

I get what you are saying, but 30 years ago, with the exception of the air conditioner and the refrigerator, none of those things were in your pocket at all times. Life is unbelievably better than it was in 1991

No it isn’t. Having a cell phone in your pocket, doesn’t mean life is better.
