I remember reading somewhere if you were to reforest the Sahara it would lead to a catastrophic collapse of the Amazon rainforest in part due to the reduction in particle cross-pollination across the Atlantic Ocean. There's always a cost to terraforming.

"Red Mars" ( and "Green & Blue" Mars) by Kim Stanley Robinson could almost be used as a blueprint for all of this. Fantastic books. We should build a soletta to shade earth and cut down on warming rather than obscure the atmosphere.
