i know i'm beating a dead horse here, but it's always worth noting my san francisco district supervisor is openly positive on leninism, which includes the red terror, and one of the greatest mass murders of political dissidents in history. still can't afford housing though, fwiw.https://twitter.com/irockgnomes/status/1422255747631484932 …

A lot of modern rad-leftie culture is just LARPing as revolutionaries because there's no actual way to make their proposed future happen, and that's one way to sublimate their anger and frustration.

Well, DSA folks really are into the thinking of Mao, Lenin, etc., but oppose the violence. My critique is from the Left that the Left needs to get past retro socialist framing and performative actions - i.e. the Left Accelerationist critique is correct:https://criticallegalthinking.com/2013/05/14/accelerate-manifesto-for-an-accelerationist-politics/ …

You can’t separate them from their violence—that is their biggest legacy. We’d never cut slack for anyone trying to push Mussolini or Pinochet readings separate from their legacies, I don’t understand why the Left thinks they can do the same.

re: scale, Mao > Hitler. Equivalency would be more like "oh don't worry about the MAGA folks they only read Mein Kampf to LARP".

Nazism is not equivalent to Socialism. Mein Kampf sets the goal as authoritarian white supremacy, whereas Kapital wants a worker's utopia - no gulags, etc. it's nearly anarchist (ie "the state withers away") There's no morally acceptable version of Nazism, unlike Socialism.

These DSA are talking about reading and emulating the violent communists, not like Denmark kind.

They're just reading the books and doing about peaceful versions, sometimes they romantically / ironically talk about gulags, etc., but it's not the goal for basically any of them.

Yea, you're down for in-jokes right? Or do you want to cancel them for being edgy?
