Follow up question w/ context: Under the current system in SF, the mayor makes about $500k including benefits and gets to deflect responsibility for anything bad to other SF entities. Why would the mayor appoint people who would not be able to insulate her from criticism?
-
Probably because it’s in her best interest to appoint people that will make her look good, or at least share same priorities. And she’s clearly aligned with the parents on this issue.

At the very least, showing that the “put extreme progs in the school board before the board of supes” pipeline does indeed have limits.

IMHO it's a question of risk and reversion to the mean. If a board is in the 99th percentile (i.e. amazing) then replacing them has a high risk of getting a worse board. 50th percentile is a coin flip. 1st percentile means you're likely to get something at least a little better.
