i'm interested in the "we should solve our problems here on earth before we go and terraform mars" conversation only insofar as we are talking about deserts, which i agree we should be terraforming into arable land

That's to me is the only reason to prioritize space travel and terraforming other planets over work here. We are a fetus in the womb and we need to establish ourselves on other planets if we hope to make it to adulthood.
