This is a trope that antivax activists use as a gotcha for why their kids shouldn’t have to have basic measles shots for school, too. The problem is when ‘choice’ impacts a whole room full of people who also get sick. This isn’t the first time states have debated mandates.

I’m not trying to convince you. They can refuse if they want to. School kids’ parents do, and then they homeschool or move to a state with requirements they like. But the rhetoric isn’t new or clever, it’s flimsy.

it’s not rhetoric, it’s an ethical position concerning a person’s right to self that many people, myself included, actually take seriously
