i mean at the end of the day any civilization capable of boundless technological progress would inevitably invent the ability to imperceptibly reach back through time and save every person who ever lived. so either you believe in god or you don’t believe in people?

This reminds of that scene from Tenet. But if a civilization has ever reached such conclusion, then why are we here ? I get your idea, but by reversing time, wouldn’t that mean that they wouldn’t exist anymore ? In this case the simulation theory actually makes sense.

Because you’d just have to run all the possible scenarios and reach the optimal one. Optimal would also imply that there may be some who wouldn’t be saved, as everything is intertwined and if you pull from one side you’re pushing from the other.
