I’ve been thinking on this a lot recently. The idea of the West isn’t capitalism, liberalism, or democracy, it’s the frontier. Some people NEED a frontier (pirates, wild west, entrepreneurs, immigrants), and they’re wildly misunderstood by the people who prefer ‘civil society’.
