My family is from Poland, Communism was absolutely horrible when the USSR forced it on us. There was a saying, everyone had a job but everyone was broke. People were extremely poor and there were constant shortages all the time. Communism is a very inefficient economic model.

On the 17-hour Paris-Berlin train in the 70s I shared so many compartments w Poles, and learned so much. Long conversations about life w a Soviet boot on your neck. The GDR border guards used to give them an extra poke w their AK 47s.
