crazier thing about studies like this to me has always been the placebo group. should we not be further exploring the fact that belief in being healed itself appears to heal people?https://twitter.com/ezraklein/status/1389411338250715138 …

science people getting triggered here because they think i’m implying something magical about placebo. i’m not. i’m talking about an apparently very important aspect of human biology we don’t fully understand, in which we seem not to be especially interested.

Placebo effect isn't real, sugar pills are actually a cure-all

I think it has been, a lot of symptoms are psychosomatic so it makes sense to be affected by placebo. That's why even things like hair loss can be affected. Stress is a huge factor

i know nothing about PTSD in particular, but a decent chunk of placebo is usually just regression to the mean this is really obvious for eg depression

The study was about MDMA assisted therapy so the placebo group was talk therapy with the placebo pill. The fact that therapy works is not that surprising.

the entire purpose of placebo implies the simple act of taking ‘something’ could impact health. simple google search reveals it does / has across many, many, many trials.

@tferriss actually did an awesome interview on this way back when. They dive into Christian Science and how they use the placebo effect, they dive into the nocebo effect, and they talk about curses. https://tim.blog/2016/10/23/erik-vance/ …

Placebo indications are always like 30%. Why is that surprising? We’ve known this for a very long time.

Theres a TON of research into placebo work. You just don't know about it, and media/establishment dont talk about it because it violates their narrative. You Are The Placebo is a solid place to start, and the evidence is incredible once you actually look at it
