Gates makes some valid points, but overall this is not a reason to end patent protections. It is only in times of global crisis that new models get built. We have to build the infrastructure needed to do this now so we are prepared for the next pandemic.

There's an actual debate to be had about this, as in, I don't agree with Bill Gates and that those checks are for ordinary times. Don't be a gatekeeper. But that framing makes such a debate impossible to have.
