if we could cut the cost of housing in half, populism on the left and right would almost certainly collapse. probably worth tabling ideological hang-ups for the moment, and pursuing policy that works towards this goal.

Mike, you are probably inviting the wrong actors into the housing market, all I read is nationalized rent control. And if large swaths of the housing market is owned by investment funds and corps, then they stand to benefit. Bc with national rent control comes "no new housing"
i'm not talking about rent control. in fact i'm not even really talking about rent. i'm talking about making it easier for people to purchase homes.

I understand, but the current powers read that and all they see are rent controls. If we make it easier to buy homes, in other words more government assistance for down payments, won’t prices continue to rise?
