Question: What is CA or SF gov managing very well right now?
Reason I ask:
+ Many progressives & liberals I know want *more* gov involvement in society
+ Yet simultaneously they decry a "broken system"
I'm trying to make sense of this.

That’s not how anybody thinks of it. They want government to work better, and they want it to address unaddressed problems they perceive. Nobody says “this isn’t working but let’s do more of it and hope for the best.” Try asking people what they think!

if you read the question in that reductionist & insulting way, you're missing a chance to try to address genuine & fairly widely-held concerns that today's grand activist-state plans will have the same track record as past such plans
