slate star codex is not racist or sexist. were the author of today’s NYT hit piece directly asked, even he, i think, would agree. however, upon reading the piece, the overwhelming impression is slate star codex is racist and sexist. this strikes me as an odd way to do journalism.

fwiw i did not at all get that impression reading the piece and i actually think there are a lot of things the reporter could've included but did not include to actually deliver that impression! reading hyperdefensively is equally unproductive as reading hyperaggressively

speaking of the biased reads with which we enter a piece, you are presently going off on your own TL re: how stupid the rationalists are. do you think you might have a little bit of bias here yourself?

oh yeah i'm biased if you had a minute of generosity i'd explain that my bias has developed over the past year mostly watching the defensiveness of the community and less due to their actual content but either way we're both biased and unfair judges of the nyt piece

the Fair Rationalist approach would probably be to poll everyone who read it and put off conclusions about the Objective Implied Racistness of Scott Alexander until we gather that data but that isn't what the rationalists are doing lol
