I have always been a little reserved on the idea that US media carries a heavy slant, but this piece really destroyed that reservation.

The implicit ideological content seems to be that viewpoints which are not sufficiently (determined by the author) prophylactic against bad views are themselves problematic, with sufficient prophylaxis meaning never being in a position where you risk constructive interaction.

It's very germ theory of ideas.

Particularly strange that the entire article about SSC does not actually contain as much as a full-sentence quote from SSC, instead offering us 'quotes' such as "opposing gay marriage" and other three word excerpts. Honestly it's just weird. There is no thesis nor conclusion.

fwiw i did not at all get that impression reading the piece and i actually think there are a lot of things the reporter could've included but did not include to actually deliver that impression! reading hyperdefensively is equally unproductive as reading hyperaggressively

speaking of the biased reads with which we enter a piece, you are presently going off on your own TL re: how stupid the rationalists are. do you think you might have a little bit of bias here yourself?

I feel like this piece was extremely lazy and boring. It's the stereotypical anti-tech piece: there are racist and sexist people in these communities exchanging dangerous ideas without someone watching and fact-checking. The call to cancel/censor more is in almost every line.
