you are a very smart person with a kind of extremely pronounced bullshit detector that i genuinely admire, i simply refuse to believe you are looking at this situation thinking "yes, schools will be better now"

the reason we can't build rational, politically engaged community in sf is smart people generally can't imagine a future for themselves here. schools are an enormous part of that. i want a home, kids, and to send my kids to public school. don't feel this is insane to think about.

1) i think the board likes to parade children out in front of them in meetings to shield them from criticism because they are cowards. 2) if there is really a racism problem at lowell rooted in lack of exposure to black people, the lottery is not going to fix that.

1) i think you’re denying the agency of the students here, they’re like 17/18 and can speak for themselves 2) will it Fix Racism? no but all you can do is take steps and lowell’s unusually strong culture of racism relative to other schools in the district is well documented
