1) i think you’re denying the agency of the students here, they’re like 17/18 and can speak for themselves 2) will it Fix Racism? no but all you can do is take steps and lowell’s unusually strong culture of racism relative to other schools in the district is well documented
this is not about racism at lowell. 'racism at lowell' is a meme being used against merit-based education conceptually, which has been targeted by the board for years, and is being targeted by the far left nationally.

also we should of course listen to all of the teenagers at these schools, but no, they aren't in charge of these decisions, and they aren't equipped to make these decisions. this is the responsibility of adults, and the adults in charge need to be held accountable.

so you’re going to ignore a real and concrete problem described in great detail by a lot of kids there (and incidentally a number of lowell grads i know) in favor of fighting an ideological war

on the question of merit. do you think it’s possible to evaluate merit accurately given an uneven basis to start. because i like the idea of merit and would love it to be rewarded but none of the “pro merit” people ever seem to care about this issue
