the nyt china article wasn't great but imo the mistake was almost entirely in execution not content lol if you're against attempting to portray positive sentiment in a nation considered an adversary then what you want isn't journalism, it's propaganda
imo the piece was crazy, especially on things like infection data (which the times itself has given us reason not to trust) and its omission of the word “uyghur,” but the broader problem is people don’t generally read articles. for most, the execution on social *is* the story.
yeah i agree with that esp the structural factors like the social thing which i think a lot of media cos are still struggling to adapt to. the failure of news/opinion/etc separation too, the piece is a business column not a rigorous news piece but your average reader doesn't care
