while I mostly agree, I think google engineers as a generally liberal group can force management to make decisions that take a principled approach to user privacy, mass media, etc...

I visited a Google campus in Seattle and there was a large sailboat that they brought indoors that was a “nap boat”. It was full of beanbags and pillows so people could nap. 11/10 would work at Google

As someone who's worked at some of these companies before, these are basically more expensive versions of the ping pong tables rounding on *no one* uses at the startups. You know what's really amazing? The oncall comp policy and downstream effects. /The cafes are good.

@micsolana from reading the press, my understanding that the union/employees want to weigh in on large projects that disproportionately impact society. my question is, do employees have enough details about this work to have meaningful takes? -
i doubt it, but whether or not they do is beside the point. workers aren't being exploited here in any conceivable way. if their issue is the *kind* of work the company does, they should get a new job.
