This is incredibly sad and disturbing. Two women were killed last night by this man. He was released last month after a burglary arrest. According to the article he has a record of: + 2 counts of voluntary manslaughter + possession of a stolen vehicle + leaving the scene of an accident + burglary + driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs (2/x)

* clarification -- those are from last night. Troy committed a 1st degree/hot prowl burglary in June 2020, stole a car in August, stole a car Oct 15, and on Nov 6th burglarized a house on States St., and stole a car on 12/20 but was let out on 12/23.

Honestly, how is this not a national outrage?

Because for a very long time here, and especially during the race where Chesa got elected, all the outrage was at the bad aspects of the system and any deviation from that focus was cast as opposition to mass incarceration. Chesa was a terrible overcorrection to real injustice.

During that election out-of-state money and advocacy from people like Shaun King offered up Chesa as a solution to national problems. A beacon with a personal narrative that got him a lot of national press. This despite the fact that SF had different dynamics/types of crime.

That's a very rational take on how we got here, thank you!
Do you think the avg person considers these details when seeing headlines of two innocent women being killed by someone released three days after his fifth felony arrest in six months?1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

No bc I don’t think most people hang out on Twitter paying attention to discussion of bad DA policies. during the next race these types of stories have to be connected back to the policies. Same with the stories of the drug dealers, hot prowl burglaries, car crime rings. Etc.
