I mean, if forced labor camps and ethnic genocide aren't _really_ objectionable, rampant human rights violations on the streets of SF, Oakland, Berkeley, and SJ aren't really noteworthy, in the grand scheme of things.

We had cockroaches when I was a kid, and I hated them. The local government (mom & dad) couldn't control them, because poverty. My disdain for roaches transcended the local government, and I was awakened (opposite of woke); as an adult my policies have been decidedly anti-roach.
In case it's not clear from the analogy, I think a town like SF which has let criminals of all stripes run amok shows us how bad it can be, and gives us permanent antipathy towards crime and criminals.
