Well, wealthy people *do* send their kids to public schools where public monies are used to replicate expensive private alternatives.
It used to be called ability grouping. Some kids learn faster than other kids. So, put some of them together. The Left wants us to return, as it were, to the one-room schoolhouse. Kids need real schools and real challenges in their school.

Parents who can afford it will flee. Even the most liberal parents will not condemn their children to failed schools. The tax base will erode further and the schools will deteriorate. But as long as everyone is equally miserable is what counts.
But to Liberals, clapping in between every word somehow makes it true.
