no billionaire is going to fix san francisco by funneling more money into black hole non-profits or government coffers. our crises are systemic, and political, and created by policy. fund local candidates who aren’t insane, or watch your city die. these are your choices.https://twitter.com/hknightsf/status/1338866041271644168 …

My latest: An open letter to @bchesky, the CEO of @Airbnb who’s worth $11.2 billion after last week’s IPO, on how he could use some of that money to help suffering San Francisco. On my list? Small businesses, public schools and food banks. What’s on yours? https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/heatherknight/article/Airbnb-s-CEO-is-now-worth-11-billion-Here-s-15801736.php …

Two of her three suggestions were to give directly to small businesses and then to food banks, which aren't really either of those things. But otherwise, I share some of your concerns.

the thing small businesses in SF most need right now is the ability to open, which again comes down to policy

That's a red herring. What gets people back into stores is controlling the pandemic. Look at the data. Look at the economic research. https://www.nber.org/digest/aug20/consumers-fear-virus-outweighs-lockdowns-impact-business …pic.twitter.com/WdF9HaeaHH

That wasn’t her decision to make. It’s the county public health officer.

Isn't ignoring scientists exactly the kind of play we would criticize Trump for? The same kind of play that Mayor de Blasio did in NYC that led to the disastrous March?

first of all, there is no settled “science” on what to do right now. second, sf just shut down preemptively — jumping ahead even of state guidelines.
