      the state just tried to shut down uber, lyft, and every app-based delivery company in california. it is increasingly not possible to do business here. taxes are obviously an incentive, but they're also a signal. texas and florida are not hostile to the industry.

      austin is a city with an occasionally-insane politics at odds with its state. san francisco is a city with a chronically, systemically-deranged politics in sync with its state. why are we so determined not to understand this.

          San Francisco is completely out of sync with California on some issues -- especially Prop 22. SF voted "no" by 60-40. CA voted "yes" by 59-41.

          agree generally, but think prop 22 actually had more to do with sf's anti-tech sentiment than leftist politics broadly. for the past ten years our housing crisis has been blamed on the industry rather than the government.
