eight months of highly-politicized pandemic hysteria later, the average person has lost all trust in both the government and the media, and has almost no sense of how to properly assess current risk. our real disaster is information-based.

Knowing you don’t know is the first step. Absolutely true that most people suck at risk assessment... so far.

This is actually an important step forward. People are now much more comfortable questioning narratives, realize how badly the centralized propaganda system has prepared them, and are eager to learn [even if they may tend toward presentations that support their biases]

The talking heads need to be sued for libel. That's the only way to get "News" stations back to abiding by the tenets of Journalism and reporting facts instead of opinion/narrative creation.

Friends in some countries disagree... could imply that the problem is still in the execution by our gov't and media, rather than purely endemic to the new information architecture we live in.

We would trust our government more if private interests didn’t leach their toxins into their groundwater via lobbying. You want competent governance? Insulate it from bribes from the private sector.

You want competent governance? Quit re-electing politicians who vote to provide benefits for themselves and the special interests that bribe them.
