finally paid off my student loans last year. doing "the right thing" was a tremendous burden that meaningfully, negatively impacted my life. ignoring people like me, or minimizing the anger we're about to see, will have significant, probably years-long political consequences.

It was also a party going g to war for my 20s to pay for my college. Probably lump those folks in there too.
Look at it this way, every financial decision has some tail risk, paying back debt no exception.
I have eight years left of $1,250/month. But do you know who accepted that loan to try and get out of a financial blackhole and deadend? Me. It annoys me that the Fed gov makes a killing off of student loans, but anyone giving out loans would.
I completely disagree. As someone in a similar situation, I don’t see any path forward without forgiveness as major component of a broader policy.
I might get behind forgiveness if it came with (1) discharge in bankruptcy, (2) elimination of federal student loans/guarantees, and (3) elimination of spell grants, all of which lead to higher tuition/student loan interest.
