VC feels san francisco is too lefty for him so he's leaving for....Austin? (also, tax shelter)https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/06/palantir-co-founder-joe-lonsdale-leaving-silicon-valley.html …

I grew up in Austin and live in SF now. Very surprised to see people think that Austin is more lefty. Maybe it is more lefty in the area around UT, but Austin is huge and has suburbs in the city. SF is all city.

I wonder if this has to do with where the county lines are drawn? e.g. austin's including more suburbs while SF just the city (and the suburbs considered different cities)

Main difference between ATX and SF Bay can be encapsulated by one image (Clinton vs Trump margins in '16). An island of blue in a sea of red, not an island of blue-so-deep-it's-almost-black in a sea of slightly-less blue.pic.twitter.com/HhxdGSbVlj

+ just generally incorrect to tie something as specific as culture & values to a binary voting preference. Strongly disliking trump and what he stands for <> alignment with far-left echo chambers seen in certain west coast cities
