when someone tweets in a very very crazy way — not just 'wrong,' or 'annoying,' but actually shocking — it's worth attempting empathy rather than racing for the easy dunk. my sense is a lot of people on this site aren't bad, they're just legitimately mentally unwell.

this is not to say "don't ever dunk," which would of course be highly LOL coming from this asshole. i'm just saying we aren't all playing with a full deck, so maybe add a mental health check to your "should i / shouldn't i" calculus before piling on to an easy target.

can this be summed up as: "never dunk on someone with less followers/power/etc than you" ? Lot of random VC's out there sitting in their bathhouses in Hawaii dunking on reporters that work for some online outlet and make $60k a year.

wealth is power, but so is status, platform, network, influence. a lot of poor writers w hundreds of thousands of followers and the ear of the government. that's a complicated question, and not what i'm talking about. i'm talking about empathy for legit mental illness.

ok. Is there a lot of writers with hundreds of thousands of followers with mental illness? Seems like it would be hard to get the mass without being pretty level headed.
