There should have been zero exceptions made. The fact that they were picking and choosing who could be exempt makes it arbitrary. Journalists should equally be unemployed.

The evil genius of the Dem/Union machine is granting the journos a 1-year exemption so it hangs over them like the Sword of Damocles I'm guessing backroom negotiations involved newspapers "doing their part" for endorsements/agenda-setting etc & another extension can be tacked on
