I am on the same page as @foreverintruth @MarkTravis15 and @jenneraub I agree with all your recommendations with the exception of prop 15... Please elaborate on why you think prop 13 needs to be rolled back... Thanks for putting out this guide though!😎

prop 13 essentially created a landed gentry class in california that pays almost nothing in taxes, sometimes on property now worth millions, while new homeowners shoulder the entire state’s property tax burden. 13 disincentivizes both movement and building, and is just unfair.

Some of those "landed gentry" are just middle class homeowners across the state who bought a home when they could in the last several decades and want to continue living there. It's not like all of them are living in $10 million homes in SeaCliff they bought in 1978.

it is just very obviously not fair to anyone else living in the state. we can not have a different set of tax laws for people who’ve lived here longer.

How about a tax on tech people who just arrived into the state, then got windfalls of 7-11+ figures when IPO? Why are you doing a class war thing in such a glass house?

It’s more a class war to advocate for different taxation for different groups, as is the status quo. What is it about a person who bought their house 15 years ago that should give them a lower rate of taxation on their insanely valuable property?

It's not a "different set of tax laws", it is simply a law that means you will pay in property tax whatever it is the year when you purchase the property. It is an incentive for home/property buyers and a way to have stable housing/property costs.

So, if you bought a house in Redding in 1985, you pay 1985 property tax. Buy an apt complex in Vacaville in 1999, and you pay 1999 property tax. There seems to be some kind of grudge against people who happened to buy property before you did. Fight against property tax hikes.
