I’m willing to place the lion’s share of the blame on our elected officials who never bothered to gain more than a surface level of understanding of these issues. The tech companies have made mistakes, but the politicians are doing their thing, trying to use them to accrue power.

it absolutely kills me to defend them in any way whatsoever, but tech's catastrophic handling of these issues has nothing to do with any politician in washington. we fucked this up on our own.

if sites like twitter become legally untenable it'll accelerate decentralized networks - can't say I'm a fan of government intervention, but in this very specific case I think the ends of re-decentralizing the application layer of the internet may justify the means
