pandora's box is also benefit + harm, but there's no process. the single action has led to immediate, irreversible change.

The nature of the process also sounds like a metaphor. A genie is either mischievous but not malicious, or maybe malicious but constrained. There is a battle of wits. Might just be artistic license, but it’s awfully specific. I wonder what that encodes.
