I do think it’s ironic that people respond to anti-vaxers, climate skeptics, etc with ‘believe science!’ The more productive response is probably empathetic: ‘skepticism is exactly the right place to start! In fact, it’s where science itself starts. Now let’s look at data.’

Honestly, that is what I see happening in the couple of parenting/health groups I'm in. I think it's more of a rallying cry where the in-group knows what is meant. Like Obama's "you didn't build that".
