If you’ve ever used Uber, Lyft, Instacart, Postmates or Doordash, the companies possess your phone number, email and credit card info — not to mention your food preferences and travels. Now they're using some of that data to try to convince you to exempt them from CA labor law. https://twitter.com/CalMatters/status/1315778046721392640 …

Who the fuck ever thought Uber or Postmates wasn't storing their phone number, email address, or order history? Do they think these things are displayed in-app by witchcraft?

Witchcraft is clearly preferable to acting on user data. I hope this most egregious offence is duly corrected by our diligent lawmakers

I think the issue here is the data isn’t used to offer more personalized service or food choices. It’s used for political stuff

im still mindblown that people are outraged at companies that are *checks notes* operating at 9 figure losses

it looks like OP is unhappy with how that data is being used, not just that it was collected

The article is about companies asking their customers to vote in a way which is beneficial to a company. I don't think there's anything wrong with it - e.g. if a taxi driver complains to a passenger about local regulations which would make rides more expensive, it is as direct

Google/Apple/Your Cellphone Service already stores your food preference by correlating geolocation data and dwell time to known restaurant locations.
