Related (in my limited experience): Be uncommonly good at at least two normally unrelated things. Much easier to add value through differentiation than brute force.

Being known for brute force while you find those two things helps too. Always easier to stick your neck out for someone and give an opportunity if you know they grind hard and will make the most of an attempt.
