surreal to read a tech piece from a once-highly respected institution referencing five or ten prominent figures in silicon valley, none of whom are willing to respond for comment. most writers covering the industry are seen as activists now, not journalists. trust is shattered.

Between Taylor Lorenz vs Balaji and the whole NYT threatening to dox Scott Alexander thing...can't blame them. I think also that "trust is shattered" applies to a lot of domains and groups in US society right now and that's very worrisome

Too much trust was afforded but unearned. Resetting to zero is a good thing.
