It's not "debasing" the court, it's restoring balance by appointing several fair and reasonable justices.

I don't want that, but rules should be consistent. 9 worked for a long time because filibusters and up or down votes promoted moderate nominations. We haven't had a liberal court since 1968 because of timing and circumstance, but it wasn't wildly unbalanced. That's now changed.
