It's not "debasing" the court, it's restoring balance by appointing several fair and reasonable justices.

Yes, and I'd frankly be disappointed if Trump had appointed two. But Merrick Garland was blocked by the senate in unprecedented fashion and the nature of the court has changed. Fortunately, the size of the court can be determined by legislation. Congress should rebalance it.
it was gross but it wasn't unprecedented, and i look forward to your endorsement of the GOP's "rebalancing" of the court the very second they have the power to do so

I don't want that, but rules should be consistent. 9 worked for a long time because filibusters and up or down votes promoted moderate nominations. We haven't had a liberal court since 1968 because of timing and circumstance, but it wasn't wildly unbalanced. That's now changed.
