Could the governor implement controlled burns on federal and private forest land? Would that have prevented the fires?

wildfires are endemic of the state, there's currently no way to prevent them entirely. we need to start burning millions of acres annually, in controlled settings, on state, federal, and private land. insanely hard, but the only reasonable strategy we have.

Take it from an Australian, given our trees are all over your states, you can probably take lesson from a country that uses controlled burning that you need it.

NPR (KQED) last night report: only 3% of CA is STATE park land -- 61% of CA = NATIONAL park land. So D.C. should step-up — but probably won't b/c CA a blue state....

-
CA heavily regulates forest management practices on ALL forest land in the state, regardless of ownership (for good reasons). You might want to look into our own regulatory role in creating this crisis.

no one has a greater responsibility to step up and lead through a megafire crisis in the state of california than *the governor of california*

The CA LAO produced an excellent 2018 report on how our state could improve forest mgmt to reduce fire risks. Recommendations (upfront in the exec summary) have been too widely ignored. https://lao.ca.gov/reports/2018/3798/forest-watershed-management-040418.pdf …
