I don't believe that any of these people have ever read the Constitution in proper context. "It's old so it's bad" is just such a simplistic view of the government. But I guess that's how it goes when you want the federal government to solve every single problem.

Problem is senate no longer represents state governments after 17th amendment. No longer a check on populism. Small states having equal representation doesn’t make any sense when they’re elected to represent the population and not the state government.

i agree the 17th amendment eroded an important power balance, but don’t agree that balance is gone entirely. turning it into a second house of reps would absolutely do that (or would we just abolish the senate entirely? no real difference it seems)
