I just happened to see this - a competitor to Uber https://twitter.com/lorenasgonzalez/status/1294121126528876546?s=21 …https://twitter.com/LorenaSGonzalez/status/1294121126528876546 …

Is this a joke? Elected officials file full disclosures of investments at least once a year (twice on election years.) I have no investments in any company. Some of us care about things besides money.

ah yes, “care.” that’s definitely the word i would use for putting hundreds of thousands of people out of work in the middle of a national disaster. seriously, please resign. you’re hurting people.

Who's putting people out of work here? Uber and Lyft have the option of operating within the law. If people get put out of work, that's the companies' fault, not hers.

Yet another clueless proponent of AB5. S/he is referring to the MILLIONS of freelancers, sole proprietors, independent contractors, and self-employed Californians who don't drive for Uber and who have been legislated out of business by AB5. Get a clue

No, he's referring to Uber and Lyft drivers. As you'd have noticed if you'd read the thread instead of just reflexively responding to it.

It’s affecting more than them, that’s the point. The bill affects independent contractors (the drivers aren’t employees, they are independent contractors)

No, the drivers aren't "independent contractors". To wit, the court has just told them as much.

Once again... AB5 affects more than just Uber drivers. The law makes it impossible for independent contractors across nearly EVERY PROFESSION to continue doing business within their industry. Read. The. Bill.

You realise that most actual professional freelancers are exempt under the B2B provision, right?

so you admit this has nothing to do with principle, you just don’t like tech companies. interesting. totally psychotic, don’t get me wrong, but i do at least respect the honesty.

No, just the ones that deliberately misclassify their workforce for money. But you do you.
