It’s because the important part is not the impact of the charity but how it makes everyone feel. Billionaires giving away millions reminds everyone we don’t have millions, which makes us feel bad, so they shouldn’t do it. /s

Also worth noting that these are the same people who berated me for a $10k political donation. Where were their hot takes about how it is comparable to a regular person giving $0.25? No consistency for acceptable targets.
