  History is at least in theory closer to what actually happened. Shared Narrative is often quite deliberately not (Reconciliation after Civil War for example).

  By “a history” as opposed to just saying “History” she is implying that all histories are narratives. To say we have a “shared story of ourselves” is to advocate for cultural hegemony.
