Interstellar was a good movie but I would be cautious to apply its logic to real life. Recovered crafts rule out natural phenomena. Lastly, it seems from pilots reports that many different types of crafts are encountered so possible aliens and future humans

Or maybe they are our future version and they are studying us to understand where their world went wrong and how they ended up where they are today. Maybe they send their version of archeologists, which makes me wonder what is their version of an engineer
