        The most absurd fan theory I can come up with is that the "self-owning" version of the prime directive is ... true. We basically know warp drive or whatever is feasible but via a combination of gatekeeping in the advanced physics community and gov't secrecy we hide it.

        the more ... grounded version is that we basically discovered something not requiring new physics or aliens to explain that's a massive ~nuclear weapon proliferation risk (but results in cool aerospace tech) and thus it is kept in the Disney vault or whatever
