Something that occurs to me here: Does lots of money offer you power? Does 160k offer you power? The answer to both is surely "Yes". Both both sides seem to fail to realise they both possess power (aka influence). It would be a start if they did.
technology, media, finance, government are all founts of power. influence is power. wealth is power.

Exactly. Also everyone is comparing upwards "I have less money than X, so I'm not powerful" "I have fewer followers than Y, so I'm not powerful." But if you have say £100k or 100k followers that's an awful lot of power to most people who have neither.
