      the world's most ambitious techno optimists are in the bay area because it was once the most rational place for a techno optimist to live. that math gets worse *every* year. and you moved the goal posts — the city of san francisco is now legitimately hostile to business.

      the math just got a whole lot better with rents dropping by this much sure I'll admit that I should clarify in my original tweet that I meant the bay area as a whole I watched the center of tech move from Palo Alto -> SF in 2012, Bay Area can survive another center-move in 2020

          the secret imo is short term remote reduces switching costs but long term remote doesn't work f2f too op, so the window of opportunity now is to seed a new epicenter while lock-in is weak

          of course I'm biased because this is along the lines of what I want to do. but I also think change of venue is an opportunity for change of culture. other half of the desire is something that more fluidly melds programming and engineering, not just "tech 2" yknow
