      I think even "earned" pride is nonsense, given what we now know about free will. You didn't create yourself or any of the variables that caused you to be who you are. Consider yourself lucky, be happy with yourself, but don't be proud. It makes no sense, and it never ends well.

          Ok, forget “free will.” We didn’t create our genes, our environment, or how they influenced our physical and psychological makeup, one way or the other. Where does the “earning” happen? At what point can you take credit for anything you’ve done?
