Great piece - please write more often. It's disturbing to watch mob violence scale via technology from republican Rome, to all of revolutionary France, to the entire world.

why terrify? you think that the ability to destroy the world should only be available to some special/approved/noble people?

Well, we’ve certainly been handing out little red buttons to destroy people’s lives. Every woman got one, for example. Must be tempting sometimes. Amazingly, no one ever uses this button in a fit of anger or spite, or a power grab.

Made me think of "Thinking in Systems: A Primer" by D. Meadows. She explains how too short delays in feedback loops cause overreaction and amplifying oscillations. Social medias effectively reduce delays of information feedback loops to zero. It is asking for trouble.pic.twitter.com/9finEnNUS6

There is a great article from her about leverage points in systems: http://donellameadows.org/archives/leverage-points-places-to-intervene-in-a-system/ … The book "Thinking in Systems: A Primer":https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3828902-thinking-in-systems …
