A person’s propensity to be offended or attack in an argument is often inversely correlated with their ability to make a strong argument. That's how people "win" arguments without logic, or at least ensure that no one else can win. But that assumes the arguers are seeking truth

i think the rage comes more from a place of identity, when a political idea becomes an essential part of how a person sees him or herself. often this overlaps with a weak argument, but sometimes not.
