2 island nations, 2 (relatively) small peninsulas, and an authoritarian prison state with a history of lying about coronaviruses that now spans two decades. we didn't do as well as we should have, but this story is much more complicated than i believed.

Korea is a "small peninsula" with 51 million people, half of which live in the metropolitan area greater than LA. People of Europe and the US don't have the discipline the Koreans have, though, and many of their government's practices strike us as state surveillance.
